Convection in rotating flows with simultaneous imposition of radial and vertical temperature gradients

چکیده
Laboratory experiments were conducted to study heat transport characteristics in a nonhomogeneously heated fluid annulus subjected to rotation along the vertical axis (z). The nonhomogeneous heating was obtained by imposing radial and vertical temperature gradient (ΔT). The parameter range for this study was Rayleigh number, Ra=2.43×10-3.66×10, and Taylor number, Ta=6.45×10-27×10. The working fluid was water with a Prandtl number, Pr=7. Heat transport was measured for varying rotation rates (Ω) for fixed values of ΔT. The Nusselt number, Nu, plotted as a function of Ta distinctly showed the effect of rotation on heat transport. In general, Nu was found to have a larger value for non-rotating convection. This could mean an interplay of columnar plumes and baroclinic wave in our system as also evident from temperature measurements. Laser based imaging at a single vertical plane also showed evidence of such flow structure.

Insight into the Boundary Layer Flows of Free Convection and Heat Transfer of Nanofluids over a Vertical Plate using Multi-Step Differential Transformation Method
This paper presents an insight into the boundary layer of free convection and heat transfer of nanofluids over a vertical plate at very low and high Prandtl number. Suitable similarity variables are used to convert the governing systems of nonlinear partial differential equations of the flow and heat transfer to systems of nonlinear ordinary differential equations which are solved using multi-s...
متن کاملSpace-laboratory and numerical simulations of thermal convection in a rotating hemispherical shell with radial gravity
The Sun and the giant planets rotate and possess deep shells of convection. Some basic aspects of prototypical global convection have been studied with a laboratory model operated in the microgravity environment of Spacelab 3 that flew on the space shuttle Challenger in May 1985. This experiment studied thermally driven circulations within a rotating hemispherical shell of fluid across which ar...

The model used for the nanofluid incorporates the effects of Brownian motion and thermophoresis in the presence of thermal radiation. The skin-friction coefficient, Nusselt number an...

The unsteady hydro-magnetic free convection flow with heat transfer of a linearly viscous, incompressible, electrically conducting fluid near a moving vertical plate with the constant heat is investigated. The flow domain is the porous half-space and a magnetic field of a variable direction is applied. The Caputo time-fractional derivative is employed in order to introduce a thermal flux consti...
